Language acquisition

There are a variety of different ways in which a language can be acquired. Learning a language in the home, family or community is different from learning a language in an educational setting.
  • There are differences between learning an additional language in a naturalistic learning setting, such as the home,  and foreign language learning in the classroom. Early language learning in the classroom can lead to success but only if enough exposure is given to the language.
  • Family social capital and access to community resources can have an affect children’s second language acquisition.
