This book provides a comprehensive overview and excellent reference for teachers wanting to know more about the conditions for developing multilingualism through integrated curriculum approaches (e.g. CLIL and CBI) where subject content and languages are learned simultaneously across any age range. The authors offer good advice from a European perspective, applicable to any contexts. The book raises interesting questions involving how different age groups benefit from content-based language teaching, the most effective age and methods for learning languages, the roles of other languages including first language, development of different language skills, learner competence and motivation. The first part of the book focuses on how integrated approaches of different sorts can foster multilingual classrooms. The second part focuses on the need for more empirical research into classrooms to understand better the complexities of multilingual and IDLL.
